Q.How long do Chao live?
A.The Chao you raise regularly live up to 5 years old.
Q.Why aren't my Chao growing?
A.Chao grow up depending on the length of time that you spend in the Chao garden. You don't grow up right away even if you eat a lot, right? In order to raise your Chao, you need to spend more time in the Chao garden with your Chao. Keep giving them small animals and tree fruits and take good of them!
Q.When I buy seeds for my Chao, he just throws them.
How do I plant the seeds?

A.So you bought some seeds, huh?!
You need a special tool to plant the seeds. I guess you can call it a tool to dig the ground with... Well, it called a "Scoop." To get the scoop, you have to win the third level of the Crab Pool in Beginner's Race of Chao Race.
Remember, if the Chao is still crawling and has the scoop, he will not be able to plant the seed so be careful and raise him well!

Q.What is the Tiny Chao garden?
Can I go there without "Sonic Advance"?

A.The Tiny Chao garden refers to the little garden found in the Game Boy Advance.
In the Tiny Chao garden, there are 2 mini-games to earn rings and buy fruits to raise your Chao.
There are also special eggs that can only be bought in the Tiny Chao garden...something a Chao breeder would not want to miss!

Q.Is it true that Chao become adults?
What will change when they become adults?

A.Yes, that's true. Chao who were born from an egg will eventually become adults. Their body size doesn't change much, though.
Chao also have a life span and will die when their time comes. Every creature dies eventually, and it's very sad to say good-bye. If you become a very good friend of your Chao, Chao will remember you and will be reborn from an egg after they die. This is called reincarnation. Chao is a truly mysterious creature. You can see the chart of the Chao's life cycle below. This may give you more information about a Chao's life when you raise them.

Q. Can they mate?
A. Yeah! when they have flowres around them, bring them another, and... KISSYKISSYGOOGOO!!! Then an egg interups their love feast by poping out, knocking them away from each other. When do you think they will have a honeymoon?
Q. After they mate with one chao, can they mate with another chao?
A. I would think that would be cheating with the other chao(s) they mated with, but yeah.
Q. I brought my chao over to one with flowers around it, and they didn't mate. Why not?
A. Well, if one of the chao got the flowers naturaly, you should probably give the other a heart fruit so they will mate. Why the chao didn't mate is because they didn't like each other. Chao have to like each other in order to mate unless you gave the other a heart fruit. Chao with Naive personalities normallybmate more often.
Q. How many times can a chao reincarnate?
A. A chao dies eventually, and can be reborn many many times. It can reincarnate over 50 times, but it will die eventually. The game desingner had to stop somewhere...
Q. Why shouldn't I abuse my chao? It's my chao...
A.Conversely, Chao abuse is a somewhat obscure form of Chao raising, in which one abuses their Chao. This can be done in a manner of ways, such as starving a Chao, leaving it in the water when it can't swim, or simply inflict physical harm upon it. Awaking the Chao while sleeping will upset the Chao more than anything. Chao abuse usually decreases the lifespan of the Chao, and the Chao dies when it comes time to reincarnate. One reason for Chao abuse is to "help" a Chao change alignment by abusing it with a character of the opposite side. However, mistreatment is in no way necessary in order to change a Chao's alignment, as treating them kindly with a character of the desired alignment (or feeding them their least favorite fruit with the undesired alignment) works just as well.If a Chao is treated poorly by the character, it will usually stand and shiver in fear if the abusing character is close by. When the Chao is held it will try to squirm out of the character's hands for fear of being hurt. If the Chao has been particularly abused, it might run away screaming and crying from the abuser, or even run up to them and attack them (this has no effect on the character). On the other hand, if a Chao is treated well by the character, it will run happily towards the character after whistling, will nuzzle against the character when it wants attention, and when held or snuggled by the character, will smile and clap its hands. Also, Hero/Neutral Chao will sometimes bow to the character, while Dark Chao will grin and give the character a thumbs-up instead. ( Wikipedia)
Q. How do I know what mood my chao(s) in?
A.The Chao's "emotion-ball" on top of its head will tell you at a glance the Chao's mood:
Normal: The Chao is not feeling anything in particular. Neutral Chao have a standard emotion-ball, but Hero Chao have a halo and Dark Chao have a spiked ball. Giving Chao an animal called a Half-Fish will turn the emotion-ball into a small flame.
Heart: The Chao is feeling very happy. This occurs when fed, pet, cuddled, or loved. If a Chao is sitting on the ground with a heart along with a circle of flowers, the Chao is ready for mating.
Question Mark: The Chao is thinking or is confused.
Exclamation Mark: The Chao is excited or surprised by something. The Chao will show this emotion after being whistled by a character it likes upon making eye contact with, or if the Chao discovers something it wants to do, like play with the beach ball or other Chao toy. If the Chao is very hungry and finds food on the ground, it will run to it with this mark on its head.
Swirly Mark: The Chao is very upset or hurt. This occurs when a Chao is awakened while sleeping, hurt by a character, or when it falls over trying to run towards the character. (Wikipedia)

When the color of the Chao's cocoon turns light blue, that Chao will become an adult.
The different types of Chao, such as Dark Chao, Hero Chao, and Neutral Chao, are decided here. Your Chao's ability, such as swimming, flying, running, power and normal, are also decided at this point.

Your Chao can become five different types and develop their abilities, such as swimming type, flying type, running type, powerful type and normal type.

When the time comes, your Chao will die. If your Chao is not treated well, it becomes a gray cocoon and disappears. If your Chao is treated well, it becomes a pink cocoon and come back to life again as an egg.
If you want to leave a good impression with your Chao, try being a good friend to your Chao!
